“It’s Godzilla’s world; we just live in it.”
We’ve now got the third and final trailer for the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, part of Warner Bros/Legendary’s MonsterVerse, which also includes the 2014 Godzilla reboot and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. From Warner Bros.:
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
The first trailer focused on the searchers for the three Titan megamonsters—Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah—and the second gave us the Ghidorah reveal. This one highlights good-guy Godzilla and his relationship with humans, set to a poignant version of “Over the Rainbow.” Nice.
The, well, monster cast includes Milly Bobbie Brown, Bradley Whitford, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Ken Watanabe, Aisha Hinds, O’Shea Jackson Jr., David Straitharn, and Ziyi Zhang, among dozens of others. Director Michael Dougherty reteamed with Zach Shields (Krampus) on the screenplay.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters opens May 29 in Europe and on May 31 in the US.
