The director of The Hills Have Eyes and the producer best known for The Evil Dead will soon bring us a heartwarming tale of familial love in a small Florida town. Oh, wait—no they won’t. Of course they won’t.
Alexandre Aja directed and coproduced the horror-disaster hybrid Crawl, along with fellow producers Sam Raimi and Craig J. Flores (300), from a script by Michael and Shawn Rassmussen (The Ward, The Inhabitants). The summary, courtesy of Paramount Pictures:
When a massive hurricane hits her Florida hometown, Haley (Kaya Scodelario, of the Maze Runner series) ignores evacuation orders to search for her missing father (Barry Pepper; True Grit, Saving Private Ryan). Finding him gravely injured in the crawl space of their family home, the two become trapped by quickly encroaching floodwaters. As time runs out to escape the strengthening storm, Haley and her father discover that the rising water level is the least of their fears.
Turns out that they really need to worry about oversized, hungry alligators. Like you do. In fact, the title of the movie for Brazil translates to “Predator Assassins,” which I like much better. The camp potential is high for this one, friends.
Crawl opens nationwide in the U.S. on July 12.
