The studio that brought us The Wave (2015) and The Quake (2018) is at it again.
The North Sea is both the title and the subject of Fantefilm’s next feature film—specifically, the oil- and gas-drilling rigs located there. Although we don’t have a plot summary yet, I’m guessing that Something Goes Wrong in spectacular fashion.
In addition to straight dramas (A Man Called Ove) and horror (the Cold Prey series), Fantefilm has been making a name for itself in the area of thoughtful disaster dramas. Both The Wave and The Quake set box-office records in that country, as well as doing brisk business overseas—to the tune of more than $12 million apiece. The new project has a budget of $6.7 million and is being supported in part by the Norwegian Film Institute ($1.6 million).
Returning from The Quake is director John Andreas Andersen. The screenwriters are Harald Rosenløw Eeg (both The Wave and The Quake) and Lars Gudmestad (Headhunters, The King’s Choice), and Fantefilm’s producers include Martin Sundland, Catrin Gundersen, and Therese Bøhn. No word on casting yet.
The film will shoot in Norwegian during summer 2020, for release in the fall of 2021. TrustNordisk is handling distribution in Scandinavia and will release the English-language version of the script for buyers early in 2020.
