Oscar-winner Halle Berry has been added to the cast of Roland Emmerich’s latest film.
Berry will be joining Josh Gad (The Book of Mormon, Frozen) in Moonfall, which kicks off with the moon getting knocked from its orbit and being set on a collision course with Earth. A crew (motley, of course) of scientists and astronauts is dispatched to land on the Moon and Save Us All.
Berry’s dozens of acting credits include appearing in everything from a nightime soap opera to a Flintstones movie to two different genre franchises to action-thrillers. In 2002, she became the first woman of color to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, for Monster’s Ball. Most recently she completed filming her directorial debut, Bruised, in which she also stars as a mixed martial arts fighter. Other recent credits include John Wick: Chapter 3–Parabellum and Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
Emmerich (2012, The Day After Tomorrow, Midway) is directing the movie from a script he cowrote with Harald Kloser (2012, 10,000 BC) and Spenser Cohen (Extinction).
Production is scheduled to begin this fall in Montreal, with a targeted release some time in 2021, world events permitting.
