The second, full trailer for the upcoming asteroid film, Greenland, has dropped. The movie reunites star Gerard Butler and director (and former stuntman) Ric Roman Waugh, whose previous collaboration was last year’s Angel Has Fallen.
Their new film tells the story of a family struggling to survive as fragments from an approaching asteroid threaten to extinguish life on Earth. One father (Butler) hears that military flights bugging out to underground bunkers in Greenland and aims to get his family onto one, but complications ensue as the world starts to burn.
Chris Evans (Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) was originally playing Butler’s character, with Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) directing, but both dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
Waugh (Snitch, Felon) is now directing from a script by Chris Sparling (Buried). The cast also features Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Firefly) and Scott Glenn (The Leftovers, Daredevil). Production companies include Anton, G-BASE, Riverstone Pictures, and Thunder Road Pictures, and STX Films is handling distribution in the U.S.
The movie is still slated for an August 14 US release.
