Two disaster movies garnered acting prizes at the Golden Rooster Awards, held November 28 in Xiamen, in China’s Fujian Province.
First, Huang Xiaoming and Yin Xiaotian won the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories, respectively, for their performances in The Bravest, in which Chinese firefighters struggle to contain a huge fire after an oil pipeline explodes.
Yuan Quan also earned the Best Supporting Actress award for playing the head flight attendant in The Captain. That film tells the story of Sichuan Airlines Flight #8633, which in May 2018 suffered a shattered cockpit windshield while it was flying 30,000 feet above Tibet.
Launched in 1981, the Golden Rooster Awards is a national event sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China Film Association.
