The first teaser trailer for South Korean disaster movie Sinkhole has been released.
Sinkhole tells the story of Park Dong-won (Kim Seong-gyoon; Nameless Gangster), who has just moved his family into their dream home after working and saving money for 11 years. The family promptly throws an overnight housewarming party for all of their friends to celebrate. But heavy rains overnight create an extremely big sinkhole, and as luck would have it, just as Park Dong-won, neighbor Jeong Man-soo (Cha Seung-won; Splended Politics), and the guests are trying to find a way out, it begins to rain again, filling the sinkhole with water. Can they find a way to survive before time runs out?
Other members of the cast include Lee Kwang-soo (Inseparable Bros) as Deputy Kim and Kim Hye-jun (Another Child) as Intern Eun Joo. The film was directed by Kim Ji Hoon, who noted:
I tried to show a situation in which ordinary people suddenly become caught in a disaster. Instead of focusing on the natural disaster itself, I wanted to show how people dealt with the situation and got through it.
The film opens in South Korean theaters on August 11. No word yet on a U.S. release.
