From IMdB: “A victim of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 helps the police track down the killers while struggling to recover from devastating trauma.”
Based on the best-selling book by Bret Witter and Jeff Bauman, the “victim” mentioned in the quote, Stronger shows Bauman’s evolution from a cheerleader for his runner girlfriend to a key witness assisting investigators in tracking down the terrorists.
Bauman (played by Jake Gyllenhaal in the film) had been standing at the finish line on April 15 when the first bomb exploded at his feet. When he woke up in the hospital 30 hours later, he asked for a pen and paper and wrote “Saw the guy. Looked right at me,” kicking the investigation into higher gear. In addition to the manhunt, the film covers the effects of the bombing on the community, the investigators, and the relationship between Bauman and his girlfriend.
Stronger opens nationwide on September 22.
