Happy 2018, all!
I’m pleased to report that not one, but TWO disaster movies made a list of notable films from 2017. Unfortunately, it’s a “worst” list.
The Hollywood Reporter’s list of the dogs of last year includes two disaster movies in the top five—Geostorm at #4, and the Grand Prize Loser at #1, 9/11.
I really can’t argue with either of these choices. In the case of Geostorm, director Dean Devlin tried and failed miserably to emulate the success of his mentor, Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow). And 9/11 could have starred Daniel Day-Lewis and Meryl Streep and it probably STILL would have been a mistake.
We’ll have to see how these and other movies do in the Golden Raspberry (Razzie®) Awards, nominations for which will be released on January 22.
