In some ways, the upcoming Skyscraper appears to be a throwback to classics such as The Towering Inferno—set in a contained environment, with more focus on the characters than on the special effects. But where Inferno‘s calamity resulted from construction shortcuts and corruption, Skyscraper is threatened by a putative band of terrorists, a la Die Hard.
This second trailer gives us more of the back story for Dwayne Johnson’s character, Will Ford. A former FBI hostage negotiator, Ford has just lost a leg in combat, and we’re introduced to the surgeon who saves his life and later becomes his wife, Sarah (Neve Campbell). After his discharge, Ford becomes a security consultant, and he and Sarah have two kids. Nice outcome, right? Until he’s on assignment in China, that is.
Ford is living and working at the tallest, safest building in the world, the Pearl, when fire breaks out. Not only is his family trapped above the fire line, but Ford is accused of setting the blaze. Can he save his family and nail the bad guys while keeping on the down-low? Come on, people, it’s *Dwayne Johnson*. The man triumphs, every time.
Costars include Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is the New Black), and Singaporean superstar Chin Han. Skyscraper opens July 13 in the US.
