Follow me on this one. This movie was released in France, Belgium, Japan, and Spain last year under each language’s version of the title Crystal Inferno. That was its original English title also, but somewhere along the line somebody decided that Inferno: Skyscraper Escape sounded better. Maybe they were hoping people would think it was potential blockbuster Skyscraper instead?
After all, both movies have a similar premise: A married couple must attempt to rescue their children who are trapped on a different floor of a building that’s on fire. But I:SE stars Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) instead of Dwayne Johnson, and Claire Forlani (Hawaii Five-O) instead of Neve Campbell, both of whom are trapped on a higher (vs. lower) floor than where the fire is. Plus, technically, this movie came first.
In any event, I:SE is coming to video-on-demand platforms in the U.S. on July 13. In a stunning coincidence, that’s the day that Skyscraper gets its theatrical release in the U.S. Hmmmm.
French director Eric Summer (Leap!) worked from a script by newcomer Regina Luvitt and Phillip J. Roth (Roboshark, Mindstorm).
